Warbasse Nursery:

A Leading Pre-School

The Warbasse Nursery School, located at 2785 West 5th Street, is an award winning pre-school, continuing into its third decade of quality early childhood education.

Under the leadership of Ira Feingold, Principal and Executive Director, the highly qualified, experienced staff provides a warm, secure atmosphere designed to meet the needs of the individual child and to foster growth and creativity within a group setting. The school was presented with the outstanding early childhood program award for quality and excellence, presented by the N. Y.S. Education Department in January 2000.

The school's goal and philosophy emphasize that this is a place where children come first. Each child is looked upon as an individual with unique talents and potential. By nurturing these talents and providing the opportunity for meaningful daily accomplishment, they help your child develop a strong sense of self worth, to become confident, self sufficient, and able to make friends and be a friend to others.

The school is located in a spacious area divided into large, fully equipped, air conditioned classrooms, which include carpeted loft spaces and cozy dramatic play areas.

Your child is encouraged to choose from an abundance of materials and activities from within a total curriculum designed to develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.

Everything is at a level accessible to any child, such as a sink to fit their size, cubbies, and little tables and chairs. Class sizes are small, staffed by caring teachers, all within a very relaxed atmosphere.

There is cooking time, story time, woodworking, dramatic play, blockbuilding, sand and water play, and a spacious gym and outdoor play yard to meet the gross motor needs of pre-school children.

The school also accepts children with special needs. This is known as our Inclusion  Program. This approach gives all children the opportunity to play together and helps prepare all children for life in our diversified society.

Special needs children receive a full gamut of specialized therapies within the classroom setting, including physical, occupational, and speech therapies. These therapies, as well as the regular program for the special needs children, is provided all at no cost whatsoever to the parent.

Through play, the Warbasse Nursery School instills a sense of self worth in their students. The youngsters' daily accomplishments allow for self expression and self discipline, which will serve them well throughout their life.

They are forming good work habits, learning to wait patiently, practice good manners, encouraged to share, learn to give and take, plus learn to get along with peers.

Through these socialization skills, they will gain the self confidence needed to prepare them for further schooling, thus offering a solid foundation for a lifetime of learning.

The Warbasse School been singled out for several honors. Among these, the school was chosen as a "model" integrated program, nationwide, by "Exceptional Parent" magazine in 1989, was chosen as one of eight programs statewide by a study sponsored by the New York State child Care Coordinating Council, and was featured in an article by a former parent published in March 1991 in the publication "Young children".

The Warbasse Nursery is a nonsectarian center, licensed by the New York City Department of Health, Division of Day Care; accredited by the N.Y.S. Education Department. Transportation is available.

Parents are invited to visit the center. Additional information may obtained by calling 718-266-5585 or 86.
